Student Transfer & Waiver Process

In-District Waiver Requests
Beginning August 15th, Tahoma School District resident students who wish to attend a school other than their resident school for the 2022-23 school year, must complete and submit the appropriate Application for Transfer from Resident School form.

This form will go live at 8am on Monday, August 15th. Once a request is received, please allow up to 45 days for a response by mail. If approved, the new school becomes the child's resident school for enrollment purposes unless the parent requests a subsequent change that is also approved. Transportation is the responsibility of the parent.

If you are requesting to transfer within the district (from one Tahoma school to another) for the current, 2021-22 school year, please fill out this form and submit it to HR for review.

*The student must enroll with their resident school before submitting the transfer application.

Out of District Waiver Requests
Beginning August 15th, the Tahoma School District allows for students living outside the district to request a waiver to attend school in this district for the 2022-23 school year. The Non-Resident Application for Enrollment must be submitted and approved annually prior to student enrollment.

Applications must be submitted with the student's resident school district. Please fill out your resident school district's Choice Transfer Request form, which will then be submitted to our office electronically. Requests for the 2022-23 school year submitted outside the waiver window (prior to August 15th) will be automatically denied. Once a request is received, please allow up to 45 days for an electronic response. If approved, transportation is the responsibility of the parent.

Follow the link here for more information on the Nonresident Application Process.

Transferring Out of Tahoma School District
Any student living in the Tahoma School District boundaries may request to attend a different public school district (including those operating state-accredited online programs) if space is available in the requested district and school. Requests to transfer out of the Tahoma School District are accepted and processed throughout the year.

Students who live within the TSD boundaries and wish to attend school in another district, may submit a request through the Choice Transfer Portal or complete a Choice Transfer Request form. By state law, releases can only be granted for one school year at a time and must be renewed annually.
